Show Me
I hope you enjoy this little video of Max.
Yes, I taught him how to do the last act.
No, we do not watch that show.
Promise.

Prayers
On Saturday, Max was thankful for "boogers and having fun." Tonight he gave a shout to "your beer."
Somebody sounds ready for fall Rush at WSU. Wonder if he'll be an AGR...

Worms
Max! Stop bathing with your food!
(It's a gummy worm-looks like he might be a tequila fan...like his mother)

Back in the Saddle
Thanks to my buddy, Chrissy, I'm going to give this Blogger iPhone App another try.
Life has been good. Max is busy, talkative, and into Star Wars. I've got a student teacher, I'm working on my Project GLAD certification, and I'm giving running another chance. Nick is learning to ski, running again, and deep into Game of Thrones. I'll say it again. Life is good.

Halloween v 3.0
Year one he was a jockey, complete with a show pony.
Year two he was a coach from the 70's.
Last year was a big year for us.
Max won the "cutest costume" award from Proctor Metro Market.
To say there was a little pressure this year is an understatement.
So, we decided to go with Pete Carroll.
I think he nailed it.
Unfortunately he refused to wear the headset when taking his photo for the contest.
Ugh.
Without the headset he's just a cute boy in an over-sized sweatshirt and stupid khaki pants.
And I was his pageant mom.
I even bribed him with a cookie.
No dice.
No headset.
We'll get 'em next year.
If they want glitz, we'll give 'em glitz.
Max did enjoy handing out treats to the trick-or-treaters.
Happy happy Halloween!

You go, boy
Zero accidents today.
One big poo on the potty.
Still watching cat videos.
He's still wearing a diaper during naps and at night but he's often waking up dry.
Seriously, we can't take any credit for this.
This is so Max.
He got in an argument with Neenie when she called him a big boy.
"I little. Neenie's big. I little."
You can't argue with that kind of reasoning.

Today stunk
I had a bad day but the following conversation perked me up.
Me: "What's Max up to?"
Nick: "He's watching cat videos on You Tube."
This was his favorite video in case you're into cats as well.
I guess we know what to ask Santa for:
Again, iPads rock potty training.
2 accidents today.
Oh, well.

Potty Talk
We started our adventure in potty training this weekend.
Our first task was to buy some uns.
Carter's had some pretty sweet boxer briefs and the Justice League pack was from Target.
We decided to go cold turkey.
No pull-ups, no training pants, no nothing.
First thing Saturday morning we put him in some underwear.
It was a new experience for sure.
We had two accidents that day and spent a lot of time in the bathroom.
Thank goodness for iphones.
We watched this video of his friend, Annie, over and over again.
We tried not to leave the house.
We just lounged around without pants.
On Sunday he had one accident.
And one poop on the potty.
He was pretty excited to share the news with Ruby.
He had one accident at Neenie's today.
He explained to her that he only pottied at home.
I can picture the future us picking the future Max up from a friend's house to take him home to poop.
Oh, well.
Max, you make this look easy.
Stop making us look so good.

Time Out to Rock
Frequenting the public library has lots of perks.
Storytime
Cheap books for my classroom
Sweet prizes for completing the summer reading program
Books
Close proximity to Starbucks
Rock shows
Oh yeah, I said rock shows.
Max and I were hanging around after storytime one morning when a group of moms were talking about the upcoming rock show held right there in the library (shhhh).
They were raving about the band and how good the music was and how they found themselves listening to it when the kids weren't in the car.
Better than Yo Gabba Gabba?
We'll see about that, I thought to myself.
Never one to miss out on something cool, I loaded Max into the Outback that Saturday morning to check out the rock show. You could tell right away who the super fans were.
Sorry the picture is so blurry.
There was just too much rocking going on to focus.
Max and I fell hard from the start.
We left that show with 3 CDs and a mission to see as many Not-Its shows we could that summer.
We left that show with 3 CDs and a mission to see as many Not-Its shows we could that summer.
In the words of Max, the Not-Its are "loud".
We've made it to two other shows since then and we're working on building a nice little South Sound fan club.
We've already recruited Bella.
She's total VP material.
Max spent the first two shows in my lap.
He's more of a silent observer.
But I could tell from his toe tapping that he was digging it.
I, on the other hand, have most of the songs memorized.
At every show they choose someone from the audience to sing a song about.
It's a total rock star song.
I really hope they pick me some time.
So far all of their picks have been little kids but I'm not ready to loose hope.
Sure they talk about bugging your parents with loud music but I can relate to that.
I played Hole way too loud in the 5th grade and it really bugged my parents. In my defense, I had some pre-teen angst to work through and Courtney Love understood that.
Something magical happened at the last show we went to.
I can only guess that the awesomeness of the Not-Its had finally reached Max's inner soul.
He got up.
And he rocked out.
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Luckily Nick was there to witness it.
And luckily I had someone to help me chase Max around.
We celebrated by picking up a Not-Its t-shirt from the merch table. Unfortunately I no longer fit into a 6x so Max was the only one who got one.
But he totally earned it.
You seriously should check out their next show.
The Not-Its have pretty much rocked our summer.

Officially Noted
I'm a pretty curious person.
My curiosity usually centers around people.
What makes them act that way?
Do they know so-and-so? (I love making people connections)
What's that guy doing working at Babies R Us?
Are they married or father and daughter?
That kind of stuff.
There is a non-person thing, though, that really gets my brain going.
It's this:
Ignore the instagram stuff.
It's the "OFFICIALLY NOTED" mark from the library.
Here's what I wonder?
Do they keep track of these?
How many hours a day does someone spend "officially noting" things?
Is this a volunteer position?
Are you only allowed a certain number of "official notes" before you are kicked out of the library system?
Are there different degrees of "official notes"?
This issue has become a little more pressing as of this evening.
I am sure you have already noted the giant pen mark covering the bottom of the page, dashing through the "d" in "noted" and narrowly missing the American Flag.
Max did that.
He did something worthy of an "official note".
I'm banking on the fact that his mark occurs on a page that has already been "officially noted". Maybe they've forgotten that the original "official note" was for the blue marker and patriotic sticker.
Here's hoping.
In all honesty I really don't want to know the truth behind the "official notes". I like thinking that it's a big complicated system of tracking and labeling.
I want to believe that when a librarian gives a patron a dirty looks it's because they have multiple "official notes" on their account and not because they were hogging the free internet for two hours.
I want to believe it because as of right now, I have a clean record (if you don't count fines and I don't because who doesn't?).
Looks like this book could be mine forever.
Please, library know-it-alls, no spoilers.
And a picture of Max because that's what this blog is all about.

Don't Call it a Comeback
The Bumbo has been here for two years.
What was intended to be a baby seat is now a booster chair.
This baby had been collecting dust in the closet but now it's serving a new purpose at our dining room table.
Hopefully Max will now eat enough to eventually outgrown it.

Catch Up
Here's how our summer has played out thus far.
1. Books
Max enrolled in the public library summer reading program.
He fills out a sheet for every ten books that he reads remains in near our laps while we read.
Then he gets to turn his sheet in for sweet prizes.
Like this mini flashlight.
And of course a prestigious certificate.
At the end of the summer one lucky reader will be awarded a laptop.
How pissed do you think some summer readers will be if a 2 year old wins the laptop?
In Max's defense, I only record books that he actually sits all the way through.
He likes to declare, "done" a few pages in.
Then he likes to "pretend" that he's tucking us in by making us lay down and close our eyes as he sneaks out the door. Happens nightly, folks.
In other book news, Max has moved from my lap to putting his hands on his own carpet square at story time.
Progress.
2. Projects
I love starting new projects.
Here are the ones I've actually finished.
Here are the ones I've actually finished.
Hello light!
I spray pained this little table.
Nick says candy cane. I say croquette mallet.
Our kitchen cart went from a light wood to "hello yellow"
I took the leftover drawers from Max's play kitchen and created shelves for the bathroom.
Max got himself a sweet little kitchen from what used to be our bar and before that my sister's desk.
And my last project was this little tent.
I got the idea from Julie.
Max loves it thinks it's OK.
3. Water
We have spent a ton of time out on Fox Island with Nick's family and Hood Canal with my family. I love that these adventures have taught Max about campfires, s'mores, crabs (the ocean kind), boats, and the importance of sunscreen and other sun protectiveness. He hasn't had a sunburn yet (thank God. Nothing would make me feel like a bigger asshole. I know it will happen eventually and I am already beating myself up over it.)
Do you like how I am reading a Parenting magazine and a book about Ted Bundy at the same time?
4. Random photos that further illustrate our rad summer
Wish this were my house but it's not.
Pop its. I felt this one needed a description.
Waiting patiently to be noticed so he could ask for his free cookie at Metro Market.
Fabulous burgers and Max's first (but not last) milkshake from Redmill for Sarah's welcome home/birthday party.
I think my feelings about this summer can best be summarized by the iconic theme song from the Golden Arches: "Ba-da-ba-ba-ba I'm loving it!"
